11/19/2017 0 Comments Pai Gow & Video Poker RulesPai Gow Poker Description Like Keno, Pai Gow Poker also has its roots firmly planted in China. The game is played with a normal 52 card deck together with a wild joker card. The idea is that a seven card hand is dealt but is split into a five card hand and a two card hand. The rules of scoring are that the 5 card hand should score higher than the 2 card hand. The main objective like so many casino games is to try to beat the hands of the banker. The player has three possible outcomes, they can either beat the banker with both hands, lose to the banker with both hands, or they can tie (1 hand each) How to play When the seven cards have been dealt, it is then up to the player to divide their hand into (highest) the five card winning hand and (lowest) the 2 card hand. After this has been done, three dice are rolled out by a cup. This determines the position of the hands always starting with the hand of the banker. The 5 card hand is ranked exactly the same as in normal poker except that the run of A-2-3-4-5 is one of the highest straights after a royal flush. The two card hand can be made up of either a pair, of which two aces are the highest, or individual cards in which 2-3 are the lowest. Wagers are placed on outcomes and the skill of the game is really in how the player divides up their cards in order to beat the banker. Video Poker Description Again very popular in casino foyers and gives the player a chance to pit themselves against the machine. Video poker machines play a standard 5 card draw although there are some variations that will offer wild cards as well as different draw options. Just make sure you know which game you are playing. One more thing to remember is that unlike playing another human, video poker machines cannot bluff. This means that the quality of your hand is crucial to your success. Understanding the basics Each version of a video poker game demands a different strategy depending upon what’s being played. Some of the more common versions include Double bonus poker, Jacks or better, Pick em poker and Joker poker. In a typical game players will generally play up to 5 times the base or low bet and this is deemed the maximum bet. An example of this is that if a lowest or base bid is £1.00, then the highest bid will be capped at £5.00. In most games a player is given an opportunity to up their chances of winning by ‘doubling’ after a win. The dealer’s card is turned over first, then it is down to the player to select any one of four cards to try to beat the dealer’s card. If the winning card is that of the player, then winnings can be doubled. The order of hierarchy for poker hands are as follows: • 1 Pair • 2 pairs • 3 of a kind • Straight • Flush • Full house • 4 of a kind • Running flush • 5 of a kind flush (with the joker) • Royal flush There are many variations of poker and like anything if you are going to start playing for money, you need to have a little knowledge about how to play.
